3G-UMTS



What is UMTS?

UMTS (Universal Mobile Telephone Service) is a third generation (3G) mobile phone developed by ITU for IMT-2000 framework.

UMTS has the support of many major telecommunications operators and suppliers, because it is a unique opportunity to create a mass market for highly personalized and user-friendly wireless information society.

UMTS is designed to strengthen and expand the capacity of mobile technologies, wireless and satellite today, offering increased capacity, data capability and a much wider range of services with a radio access system innovation and improvement, evolving core network.

Spectrum for UMTS

WRC'92 identified the frequency bands 1885-2025 MHz and 2110-2200 MHz for future IMT-2000, with the bands 1980-2010 MHz and 2170-2200 MHz for the satellite part of these systems in the future.

How and When?

For technical and commercial success of UMTS, and to comply with its 2002 release date, a number of measures are being adopted by manufacturers, standards bodies operators and regulators around the world:

- Creation of an adequate regulatory framework

- Ensure the availability of licenses

- The allocation of sufficient spectrum for operators

- Production time for UMTS

- Promote the simultaneous recording of UMTS in several countries to stimulate the expansion of services in a global marketplace.

- The full commercial phase (2002-2005), with improvements in performance and capacity, and the introduction of new UMTS services and sophisticated.
